Inspection and Testing

Canam’s electricians are both fully qualified and highly experienced. They are thoroughly vetted to ensure they provide a first class service at all times. We carry out electrical installation work, testing, maintenance and repairs in commercial and residential buildings across the UK.

Installation, Maintenance and Repairs

We commission, test and certify our work, in line with statutory and NICEIC requirements and issue test and inspection certificates to verify compliance.

Five Year Electrical Tests

We use the NICEIC-recommended format and latest British Standards as the basis for our testing and comprehensive reports and issue test and inspection certificates, to verify condition. We provide recommendations and costings for any necessary remedial work and where instructed, we implement the works to a professional and high-quality standard.

Emergency Lighting

Canam carries out installation, maintenance, repair, inspection and testing of emergency lighting systems, in line with current regulations and best practice. This includes fire exit and directional signs, lighting in evacuation routes and staircases, and any other locations where back-up emergency lighting is needed.

Portable Appliance Tests

Canam provides Portable Appliance Tests (PAT) in accordance with Best Practice guidelines including necessary certification of all appliances tested.

Compliance with Legislation and Best Practice

We work closely with Clients to keep them updated on changes in regulations and Best Practice.

Fire and Smoke Alarm installations

Canam undertakes fire and smoke alarm tests and maintenance in accordance with the latest regulations and recommendations.

We carry out recommended tests and maintenance according to the relevant building type, in line with statutory requirements, Clients’ operational needs and Best Practice guidelines.

Our test records give Clients detailed results and information on any defects found. We provide quotations for any necessary remedial work and where instructed, carry these works out promptly and efficiently.

Automatic Opening Vents

Canam carries out regular tests, maintenance and repairs on a range of leading automated smoke-ventilation systems to ensure that they are able to help remove harmful smoke fumes from escape corridors and stairwells in the event of a fire.


Dry Risers

A dry riser is a main vertical pipe intended to distribute water to multiple levels of a building or structure as a component of the fire suppression systems. Outlets are strategically placed to allow the fire service a connection on each floor to fight the fire directly from inside the building without manoeuvring hoses up through the building. Dry risers have to access a fire engine within 18m of the dry riser inlet box. Dry risers in occupied buildings have to be within a fire resistant shaft, usually one of a building’s fire escape staircase enclosures.

Canam carries out routine testing and maintenance of dry risers, in accordance with current recommendations and issues test certificates as required.
